More Frequent Checking Account Debits Coming Sept. 15
Effective Sept. 15, 2017, you will begin to see electronic debits post to your account more frequently throughout the day due to a change made by the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA). This new NACHA rule requires us to post debits to your account three times per day instead of just once a day. The change allows merchants to receive payments faster. As a result, you may see your balance decrease with greater frequency than before this change.
To avoid low or negative balances, you should assume all debits to your account are deducted as soon as you conduct a transaction, including when you write a check. Electronic debits include recurring debits, one-time ATM or debit card purchases, and transactions that clear your account through the Automated Clearing House (ACH). These ACH transactions typically are bill payment transactions made through online banking or through other merchants you’ve authorized to debit your account.
