INB employees are passionate about serving the needs of the community. Employees are encouraged to volunteer with not-for-profit organizations of their choice.
All bank employees rally their support around United Way, with the bank serving as a Pacesetter organization in Sangamon County. Since opening in 1999, we’ve donated over $900,000 to United Way of Central Illinois, with almost two-thirds of the total coming directly from employees.
In 2015-16 campaign year, President and CEO Sarah Phalen and Executive Vice President and Trust Officer Pat Phalen served as campaign chairs. John Kelker, president of United Way of Central Illinois, says, “Their commitment to our nonprofit community is inspiring; and, we can’t wait to bring their energy, enthusiasm and leadership to United Way’s annual campaign.” The campaign ended at $2,686,000 — $4,000 over the previous year’s mark. As Sarah put it, “Every donor in every campaign is part of this success.” Pat added, “We can truly say we’ve reversed the trend of downhill campaigns thanks to two back-to-back years of increases.” The Phalens were especially proud of the INB team that pledged a 13 percent increase over the previous year's donation. (For more on the campaign, see our blog post.) In addition to monetary support, we have large teams take part in the semi-annual Days of Action hosted by United Way. Most recently, we've mulched at the city parks and painted picnic tables, cleaned the lodge and mulched walking paths at the YMCA Camp on Lake Springfield.
Bank employees support much more than United Way. For example, we raise money, buy food and donate our time to the Kids Café, assuring children in the local school district have food over spring break. In 2016, we sent over 160 kids in the Brandon Court area home with shopping bags filled with everything from fruit juice boxes to canned ravioli and fresh fruit. We make a cash donation each holiday season as part of Touchdown for the Tables. We were also happy to support the city of Springfield's microloan program.
The bank fields and fills donation requests almost daily. The Springfield Park District, SPARC, Hope School and Fifth Street Renaissance Veterans Shelter are among recent recipients. We also contribute to the Peoria Downtown Development Corp., Danville Community Ag Day, Riverton and Pleasant Plains High Schools, and Christmas on Vinegar Hill in Mt. Pulaski. These are all organizations our employees support. As a result, we support them as well.
Our employees do more than just give money. They advocate for organizations, take part in their events, serve on boards, organize and plan. Here are some recent examples of organizations and events we've supported with more than just dollars:
