One of the most important questions we consider before making a staff change is: “Do we have someone on staff who can do the job we need done?”
When I looked around at our Mt. Pulaski staff, the answer was an obvious, “Yes. Marcy Smock.”
Marcy is qualified for her new position as branch operations officer because of both her ties to the Mt. Pulaski community and her skills. She started as a teller with INB in March 2012. In the years since, she worked up into the Teller Supervisor position, then on to Universal Banker. Along the way, she has developed strong leadership skills, allowing her to manage the branch whenever I am out. And since I manage our branch in Riverton as well as Mt. Pulaski, I’m often calling on Marcy to lead our team.
While Marcy is a proven leader, her personality brightens the whole branch. She has great relationships with our customers. Having grown up in Mt. Pulaski, our customers know her and have watched her grow up since she was a baby. They really love her as she is always quick to greet them, razz them, and then assist them with their banking. Marcy is well-known and is very active within the community. Her presence is definitely an asset to us.
Before Banking; Family Life
Marcy worked at a grain elevator after graduating from college in 2009. She had her first child in November of 2011 and wanted to do something different when returning to the work force. She saw we had a teller opening, she interviewed, and was hired. Marcy and her husband has since welcomed a second son to their family.
Family and all, Marcy is very active in the community. She is involved with PASE (People Acting for Students & Education) at the grade school, and the Hilltop Club, which was just organized to better the community by helping kids in the community. She and her husband also volunteer as coaches for their son’s t-ball team.
Customers: You Make Our Day
Marcy says the best job perk is being able to work with other Mt. Pulaski residents. She says, “I have really become close with some of our more frequent customers. Some of them really enjoy coming in. We handle their business, then they stay to visit with us. I believe we make their day, and what most of them don’t realize is they make ours as well.”
Marcy concludes: “I work with a lot of amazing, fun and knowledgeable people. Everyone is always willing and nice about helping you if you need assistance. This holds true bank-wide. Ever since I started working with INB, I have always felt that I have been a part of a great company that appreciates me and all the work that I do here. I would like to thank those individuals who have given me such great opportunities here and continue to do so.”
