SVP, West Wabash Avenue Branch, NMLS #662907
Traveling is great fun, but it’s usually best with planning. Where will you stay each night? What sites will you see each day? How much will you spend on meals?
And if you’re planning to travel outside of the United States, you need to plan to get a passport. A U.S. passport is proof of U.S. citizenship at home and around the world.
If you’ve heard horror stories about getting a passport, rest assured the federal government is now issuing passports in four to six weeks. And if you’re willing to pay for expedited service, you can get a passport in three weeks.
Typically, Sangamon County residents visit the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office in the County Building in downtown Springfield to get their passports. But for two Saturdays in June, INB will open its West Wabash and North Dirksen Parkway Branches to anyone in Sangamon County who would like to apply for a passport. Passport agents from the circuit clerk’s office will be on hand to process passport applications.
The process will be just as if you’re in the circuit clerk’s office, so you’ll need to be sure to bring the following items to complete your application:
• Certified copy of your birth certificate (no photocopies or hospital certificate)
• Valid photo ID
• Approved passport photo
• Certified copies of court orders for name change, custody or adoption decrees
To make the process as quick as possible, you can complete the DS-11 Form ahead of time. Also be sure to bring at least two checks per application… three if you want to expedite the processing. The circuit clerk’s staff cannot accept cash. If you prefer, you can use money orders. You can calculate your costs ahead of time on the U.S. government’s website.
If you plan to get passports for children, call the circuit clerk’s passport office in advance at 217-747-5183 for special requirements. If you have questions, visit www.sangamoncountycircuitclerk.org.
My staff and I, along with the North Branch staff, look forward to meeting you when you stop by our offices for your passports.
