Coffee fans can get a chance to taste Redbud Coffee out of Auburn, Ill. by stopping by INB’s Montvale and South Sixth Street branches. As part of our Community Appreciation Week activities, we’re hosting “Coffee with a Banker.” A few of our bankers talk about their caffeine habits.
Cayla Keyes, AVP, South 6th and Downtown Drive Branch Manager
I’ve been a coffee drinker for as long as I can remember. I used to drink it as a treat – You know, by taking a little coffee with my cream and sugar. As I got a little older (and healthier) I started to drink my coffee black. I prefer to actually “taste” the coffee these days and I pretty much drink it every day (sometimes ALL day, depending on the day)…. At the South 6th Branch we make sure to have something for everyone though. If you aren’t a coffee drinker – there is also water, juice, tea, and hot chocolate.”

Years ago Courtney (my wife) and I visited Europe and our first morning in Rome we were jet lagged and I couldn’t wait to get a cup of coffee. I went to a little coffee shop and the menu was, of course, in Italian. I saw “Americano” and had that. It was basically an espresso with water added to make a full cup of coffee. It was so different than what I would have had at home but 1) I was tired and 2) when in Rome, do as the Romans do…
Marilyn Titone Schaefer, VP, Communications Director
I didn’t drink coffee until I started teaching right out of college. My first hour was also my “free” period, and the teacher’s lounge was cold in the winter. This was before microwaves, and the only hot thing was coffee. So I started drinking coffee out of a desire to stay warm. I still drink it but, now, because I really like it.”
Pat Phalen, Executive Vice President
In college I found that I did my best work during “crunch time” (aka… at the last minute). So I wrote papers and studied for tests at the 11th hour. My first experience was pulling an “all-nighter” while studying for a world history final. So, a few pots of coffee to get me through the night and a pot in the morning for a little jump start…and I was hooked.
Mortgage Gets Caffeinated its Own Way

I’m not a coffee drinker… not even a little bit! Only tried it once and that was enough! But, I love iced tea. It’s my morning, noon, and night drink! I go through a gallon roughly every day and a half. I will have to blame my father for this as I started drinking iced tea with him when I was young and it’s stuck ever since. I’ve never even really been a soda drinker… just a nice glass of iced tea! My grandparents were also the same way so I had the tea influence going since a young age. My son however, won’t touch the stuff nor will he drink coffee!
Deena Smith, Vice President, Mortgage Lending
I don’t drink coffee…I love the smell of it, but Starbucks doesn’t make any money on me. My go to drink is Diet Mountain Dew…so I am not sure if that is healthy living!!!
