Melissa Tepovich had 13 years of banking experience before joining INB. She advanced from her start as a teller to banker, wealth advisor assistant, sales manager and strategic growth director. She recently stepped up again to take a position with INB where she has the opportunity to help organizations simplify processes, improve cash flow, handle employee payroll and security move financial data online.
Melissa began her banking career while a student at the University of Illinois, Urbana campus. “I started in banking while enrolled at the University of Illinois to help cover expenses associated with school. I quickly learned how much I loved banking and helping my customers. I’ll be honest, when I selected finance as my major I didn’t have a clue what I ‘wanted to be when I grew up.’ Shortly after starting as a teller, I knew banking was the career path for me.”
After graduation, Melissa began a full-time banking career in Des Moines. After three years, she returned to her Illinois roots and took a job with Busey Bank. She reunited with old friends, had a chance to be part of her nieces’ and nephews’ lives, and met her future husband. She and Doug are now parents to toddler Benjamin.
One of the aspects of her career that she’s truly enjoyed is taking part in the Illinois Bankers Association’s Future Leaders Alliance Board. She graduated from the Future Leaders group in 2015, learning new skills and knowledge and building relationships in the industry. She said, “When I was approached about being part of the board, I was a definite, instant yes! We use our time in the program to help build curriculum for future classes.”
Melissa is also active with the Heart Association, serving on the Heart Ball Silent Auction Committee. She explained that heart disease has affected both sides of her family as well as her husband’s, so helping make strides in the medical field is very rewarding.
